From Concrete to Connection: A Welcoming New Space at Provencher
Société historique de Saint-Boniface
St. Boniface
Even small unsued areas can be transformed into a warm space to have lunch, or to meet up with friends.
This beautiful new outdoor area at the Centre du patrimoine is a blend of design, community, and culture.
Honouring Tradition
At the heart of the redesign is a Medicine Garden, bringing Indigenous teachings and healing plants into everyday. Nestled between custom-built cedar benches and natural stone pathways, these gardens offer a quiet space to unwind amongst the plants.
The addition of a wheelchair-accessible smudging area ensures everyone can take part in cultural practices, with inclusivity and respect thoughtfully built into every detail.
A Pathway with Purpose
Carefully placed planters line the walkway, guiding visitors toward the main entrance. They help define the space and turn what was once an unused space into a natural, intuitive gathering place.
Community in Every Detail
A highlight of the project is the artwork on the communal table, created by a local artist - a great representation of the community it now serves.
This transformation is about bringing nature, culture, and conversation into a welcoming place.
